It was even worse than expected. Cade spent the entire week worrying over the upcoming weekend. Turns out there was no way in hell he could've prepared for it. Friday night was a nightmare filled with visions of Dylan ignoring him before disappearing completely. When Cade made a few veiled inquiries, he learned Dylan had left early. No matter how he tried, Cade couldn't learn the reason. Even though he hadn't thought such a thing possible, Saturday night was even worse. If Cade thought having Dylan ignore him was painful, it was nothing compared to watching the man smiling and flirting with someone else while never once meeting Cade's stare. It was his own fault. He couldn't deny it. In truth, he'd been half-asleep and caught off guard when his friends had shown up in the middle of the night. Cade had never cared about anyone before, not the way he did Dylan. He didn’t want anyone to look at Dylan and think he was just some dude Cade was fucking. When everyone stampeded into his apartment, catching them right out of bed, he'd hated the thought of anyone disrespecting Dylan, even with their thoughts. Damn. Dylan was the one. Cade wanted everyone to see him in that light. That's hard to accomplish at four-thirty in the morning with beard burn and mussed hair.

Unfortunately, his slow thinking had cost him everything. He was at a loss as how to make it right.

"You should go big or let it go." Maddox's random statement didn't make as much sense as it should have in the face of Cade's scrambled brain. At his blank look, Maddox sighed. "With Dylan. You need to go over there and make a royal ass of yourself so he knows he matters to you. Right now, he thinks you're ashamed. A dude like him isn't going to stand for that. He could have anyone."

It was true, but Cade didn't need reminding since it was obvious Dylan was already working on landing another. "Thanks a lot. Like I needed you to point out he's ten minutes away from leaving here with someone else."

Maddox shrugged. "Hey. What are friends for?" The humorous light left Maddox's eyes as he glanced over at the man in question. Hawke sat perched on the edge of a barstool, laughing at something Dylan was saying. Dylan's hands moved in time with whatever he was describing. Cade followed their motion. Hunger ate at him. Those hands belonged to him. The lips, smiling at someone else, tasted like heaven and Cade's future. He wanted to growl his frustration. There's no telling what he would've done in that moment if Maddox didn't cut into his growing anger.

"You can't let him go home with Steve."

Cade tore his gaze away from Dylan and focused on Maddox. "Who the hell is Steve?"

Maddox's mouth lifted in one corner. "Come on. You can't seriously think Hawke's name is really Hawke? Who the fuck names their kid Hawke?"

"Who the fuck names their kid Cade?" Cade retorted.
